Contessa Pupa is one of five apartments in an ancient hunting villa, surrounded by centuries-old trees in front of a chapel containing works of terracotta, located just a few miles (km.7) from the medieval town of Todi. The villa was built on the remains of an old tower which dates back to the 7^th century. Several centuries ago, a noble family from Todi, enlarged a farmer’s house into a villa which he used as a base for hunting in the surrounding woods. The villa is set in the Umbrian countryside, next to olive groves and another country farmhouse. From some of the windows, and the swimming pool, there are views out to the green hills beyond and to the ancient Convent of the Frati Cricestensi.

The entire villa, including this apartment, was restored in 2001 with great attention to detail and a respect for the villa’s centuries-old origins. Contessa Pupa apartment is located on the “piano nobile” floor of the villa, so the ceilings are high, the rooms are spacious, and there are a large number of windows bringing in light. There are niches in the walls that are now filled with glass shelves, original terracotta floors and wood-beamed ceilings, the original kitchen fireplace, and wooden entrance doors to the apartment dating back to the 18^th century. The interior design is very tasteful, mixing antiques with comfortable furniture, good lighting and colorful accents. There is lovely artwork throughout. All of the bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances are new, and of top quality.

The living room is right next to the entrance to the apartment, with a window facing the garden. It has comfortable furniture, an antique desk and cupboard, and a display of glass objects. It adjoins the large kitchen/dining area, which has a stone fireplace with two chairs in front of it, and a nice work area for food preparation. A door in the kitchen leads directly to the outside dining area for the apartment. This area faces the garden and an old unrestored church that is on the property.

In the bedroom area, the twin bedded room is divided from the hallway by large glass doors. It has a tall French door that leads out to a small balcony facing olive trees and the garden. A large bathroom is across the hall with a bathtub and hand shower, and two marble sinks The washing machine is in a storage room next to the bathroom. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and two corner windows that look out to the swimming pool and the gardens around the villa. It is ensuite to a lovely tile bathroom with bathtub and hand shower.

The large swimming pool (5x15 metri, 16,4x49,2 feet ) is a short walk down a small hill below the house. It is in a terrific position, with beautiful views to the hills beyond and the historic Convent. There is a bathroom and an outside shower at the pool. Guests at Canonica will share the pool with the residents of the other four apartments. There are ample hiking areas on the property and in the surrounding area.

The apartment is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator/freezer, satellite TV. There is central heating. A cellphone will be provided.
